AI governance is maturing fast. Earlier this year, NIST released its pioneering AI Risk Management Framework. Lawmakers, together with academia, industry, and civil society, are turning to impact assessments as a tool to address AI risks and advance accountability. State and local governments, meanwhile, are taking action, with a New York City law on automated hiring tools entering into effect this past January. How do policymakers strike a balance between enabling responsible innovation and advancing trust in AI? What approaches to AI governance can reasonably be advanced today and what should be left to when AI standards are mature? This panel will explore the state of AI governance and the frameworks, tools, and regulations that will shape its future.
